The study objectives are to determine the differing effects among combinations of thinning and burning treatments on species, fuels, and vegetation structure. Emphasis will be placed on discussing and viewing the different effects of fire and thinning on oaks and their major competitors, particularly sugar maple.  In addition, there will be a site visit at Marais Des Cygnes NWR a recent timber harvest and TSI project within bottomland hardwoods.
